Paint? I can’t. My art teacher drilled that into me in fifth grade with the tenderness of a sledgehammer. That was basically the end of the topic – I thought. So I shifted my artistic expression to places where you can’t go wrong with paint: the dance floor and the handball court. Music is still my great passion, and I find chasing a ball deeply meaningful – primarily as part of a team, of course.
And now, decades later, the ball suddenly appears in my paintings. Painting simply brings me joy. It helps me focus in a world otherwise characterized by total focuslessness. I’m naturally pleased that my images – be they photographs or, increasingly, paintings – are now of interest to others. A little vanity is necessary.
I paint faces. Aces of faces of course. There will soon be 8.000.000.000 of them on this fabulous planet, and each one is different. For me, that’s inspiration and an inexhaustible source of imagination in a world whose diversity is hard to surpass. Thanks to Amµ Sèment, my artistic advisor, the faces now also fit other motifs. For example, the „second-to-last of their species“: animals that are threatened with extinction or have already passed it. I am convinced they endured and continue to endure their fate with stoic composure – an das such exemplary for the species that actively supported them in their extinction. Then there are also the „faces in paragraphs“. They help me to bear the sense and, above all, the nonsense of a legal system that has gone off the rails with a touch of humility – and to remind myself again and again: It is a great honor and quite a miracle to be here at all. I get more support in these matters from my water people, the icons, the strongmen, etc. Join our army, let’s do better, and if that doesn’t work: let’s laugh about it together and carry on despite it.
